Beach Walk Shawl

Materials:

600 yds of light weight (3) yarn (1 cake plus a little bit of Lionbrand Mandala Yarn)

5mm hook

Tapestry needle

fsc=foundation single crochet

ch=chain

sc=single crochet

dc=double crochet

tc=treble crochet

Standing dc=standing double crochet

FO=fasten off

Pattern:

Row 1: fsc 251 (or any multiple of 10 plus 1), turn.

 

Row 2: ch 1, sc in next stitch, ch 5, skip next 4 stitches, repeat *to* across, turn. SEE PICTURE BELOW

Row 3: ss in 1st sc, ss in next 3 ch, ch 1, sc in 3rd ch, *skip next 2 ch, (tc, ch 1, tc, ch 1, tc) in next sc, skip next 2 ch, sc in 3rd ch, ch 5, skip next (ch 2, sc, ch 2), sc in 3rd ch* repeat *to* across, skip next 2 ch, (tc, ch 1, tc, ch 1, tc) in next sc, skip next 2 ch, sc in 3rd ch, turn. Row 6-51: repeat Row 4-5 (ending on a repeat of Row 5) NOTE: each row will be shorter by ½ repeat set so that when you reach Row 51 there will only be ½ repeat. -DO NOT FO- SEE PICTURE BELOW

*ROUND 52: *this portion is worked as a ROUND and goes around ALL 3 side of the triangle* starting by stitching down the left side (right for lefties), ch 1 and sc in same stitch as last sc of Row 51, sc in next 2 ch, sc in next (sc, ch, tc, sc), *sc in each of the next (3 ch, sc, ch, tc, sc)* repeat *to* to top corner of the left side (right side for lefties) of the shawl, 2 sc in last sc (you should have a total of 174 sc including the last 2), ch 1 -SEE PICTURES BELOW- ROUND CONTINUED BELOW-

Continue by turning to work along top side. Place 2 sc in 1st sc of tip side, sc in each stitch across until last stitch, place 2 sc in last sc of top side (you should have a total of 253 sc on the top side), ch 1 and turn to work along other side toward point, SEE PICTURES BELOW -ROUND CONTINUED BELOW-

Continue working down the 2nd side of the shawl toward the point just as you did on the other side beginning with 2 sc in 1st sc, repeat *to* until the last ch 3 space before the point, sc in each of these 3 ch and next sc, sc in next tc, sc in next ch 1, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next tc, sc in next ch sc in next tc, join with ss to initial sc, FO. ROUND COMPLETE. SEE PICTURE BELOW

ROW 53: *switch back to working in ROWS along the side of the shawl- no additional stitches will be placed along the top edge* turn to work along the side edge toward the bottom point of shawl,  join yarn with a standing sc in the ch 1 space in the corner between the top edge and the side, ch 1, *skip next 4 sc, (tc, ch 1 X 5 ) in next sc, skip next 4 sc, sc in next sc*, repeat *to* until 7 stitches remain on this side at the bottom point (ch 1 space should be the center of the point), skip next 4 sc, (tc, ch 1 X3) in next sc, skip next 3 sc, (tc, ch 1 X5) in center ch 1 space, skip next 3 sc, (tc, ch 1 X3), ch 1, repeat *to* across, turn. Row 54: standing dc in turning sc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next 5 tc, skip next (ch 1, sc, ch 1)* repeat *to* across IN THE POINT- you will (dc, ch 1, dc) in all 11 tc of the point section skipping all ch 1 spaces, repeat *to* on the second side placing dc in last sc, turn. SEE PICTURES BELOW

Row 55: *ss BETWEEN next 2 dc, (sc, 2 dc, sc) in next ch 1 space*, repeat *to* across, ss BETWEEN last 2 dc, FO. SEE PICTURES BELOW

Weave in ends and WET BLOCK. The blocking step is REALLY IMPORTANT for this project and truly improves the finished look.
