CROSSOVER HEADBAND

Materials:

2.75mm hook OR 4mm hook

Super Fine Weight (1) Yarn OR Light Weight (3) Yarn

Tapestry Needle

 

Abbreviations: 

ch=chain

sc=single crochet

dc=double crochet

tc=treble crochet

ss=slip stitch

fptc=front post treble crochet

WS=wrong side (underside of headband)

FO=fasten off

Size Note: This headband can be adjusted to fit any size by adding or subtracting multiples of 6 for the starting ch. Starting ch should be in multiple of 6 plus 1.

Gauge Note: This pattern can be worked using super fine gauge yarn and a 2.75mm hook or with worsted weight yarn and a 4mm hook. Using the worsted weight yarn with 4mm hook will produce a wider band. The sample pictured in this pattern was made with super fine yarn and a 2.75mm hook.

 

Pattern Note: This pattern alternate between working in ROWS and working in ROUNDS. Changes are noted throughout the pattern. 

 

Headband Pattern:

Row 1: Ch 61, turn. (61 ch) -ch 72 if using super fine (1) weight yarn (72 ch)-

Row 2: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each sc across, turn. (60 sc)

Row 3: ch 3, *tc in 3rd sc , ch1, cross over TOP of previous tc and tc in 1st sc, skip next sc*, repeat*to* across skipping the “skip 1” on the last repeat, ch 3, ss in last sc of row (same stitch as 1st tc of last repeat set), ss in 1 sc on bottom row, ch 1, turn to stitch into short side. -SEE PICTURES BELOW

 tc in 3rd sc (leftmost stitch), place next tc in marked stitch to the right.

2 completed tc cross over stitches.

-Begin working in rounds-.

Round 4: sc in side of sc, sc in side of tc, 3 sc in ch 3 space, 1 sc in last ch, ch 1, turn to stitch into long side, -SEE PICTURE A- sc in each stitch and ch space across,  ch 1, turn to stitch into short side, -SEE PICTURE B- sc in top ch, 3 sc in ch 3 space, sc in side of tc, sc in side of sc, ch 3, turn to stitch into long side. -SEE PICTURE C-

PICTURE A sc along shortside, turn to stitch into long side along top.

PICTURE B sc along long side competed (rightmost side), turn to stitch into short side.

PICTURE C sc along short side, ch 3 to set up for next ROW.

-begin working in rows-

Row 5: *fptc around 2nd tc of row 3, ch 1, -SEE PICTURE D- cross over the top of previous fptc and fptc around skipped tc*, repeat *to* across, ch 3, join with ss to last sc of Round 4, ch 1, turn to stitch into short side. -SEE PICTURE E AND F-

PICTURE D: first fptc around top tc of first crossover stitch.

PICTURE E: second fptc around bottom tc of first crossover stitch.

PICTURE F: fptc crossover stitches completed, ch 3 to be ss into marked stitch.

Row 6: -working on WS, SEE PICTURE G- sc into side of sc, 3 sc in ch 3 space, sc in top ch, ch 1, turn to stitch into long side, sc in all stitches and ch 1 spaces across, ch 1, turn to stitch into short side -SEE PICTURE H-, sc in top ch, 3 sc in ch 3 space ,sc in last sc of Round 4.

PICTURE G:  working on the WS, sc along short side.

PICTURE H: sc along long side, ch 1, turn to stitch into short side.

 sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn to stitch into short side -SEE PICTURE BELOW- 

2 sc in 1st sc of ch 3 space, sc in next sc, skip next 2 sc, 3 dc in next stitch, dc in next stitch, ch 98, ss in 2nd ch from hook and in next 96 ch -SEE PICTURE BELOW-

3 dc in next sc, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc,  2 sc in next sc, ch 1, turn to stitch into long side -SEE PICTURE BELOW- 

sc in each, sc across to 1 in last sc on long side, ch 1, turn to stitch into short side -SEE PICTURE BELOW-

 2 sc in next sc, skip next 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc, dc in next sc (ch comes out of this ch), ss into 2 ch, -SEE PICTURE BELOW-FO.
