HEART APPLIQUE

Material:

5-10 yards of worsted weight yarn

3.5mm hook

tapestry needle

scissors

 

Abbreviations:

ch=chain

hdc=half double crochet

dc=double crochet

htc=half treble crochet

tc=treble crochet

ss=slip stitch

FO=fasten off

 

Gauge Note: For this applique, gauge is not important. It can be made larger by using a larger gauge of yarn with appropriate hook. It can be made smaller by using a smaller gauge of yarn with appropriate hook.

Pattern:

Row 1: ch 3, 2 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, ch 1, turn. (2 hdc)

Row 2: 2 hdc in each stitch across, ch 1, turn. (4 hdc)

Row 3: 2 hdc in 1st stitch, hdc in next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in last stitch, ch 1, turn. (6 hdc)

Row 4: 2 hdc in 1st stitch, hdc in next 4 stitches, 2 hdc in last stitch, ch 1, turn. (8 hdc)

Row 5: 2 hdc in 1st stitch, hdc in next 6 stitches, 2 hdc in last stitch, turn. DO NOT ch 1 (10 hdc) SEE PICTURE 1

Finishing: 

Turn to side of point, place 8 ss evenly along edge of point, ch 2, turn so 2nd side of point is facing up, place 9 ss evenly along 2nd side of point. Join with invisible join to next dc, FO leaving a long tail for sewing your heart on the your project (optional). SEE PICTURES 4, 5 AND 6
