Quick Mushroom Hat

Materials:

1 skein of super bulky weight yarn

Worsted weight yarn

8mm hook

4mm hook

Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

MR=magic ring

dc=double crochet

hdc=half double crochet

sc=single crochet

ss=slip stitch

BLO=back loop only

Size Note: This hat is very stretchy and will accommodate most older kids (elementary and up) and adults as written. Hook gauge can be raised to 9mm to adjust for a larger head if needed.

To alter the size for toddlers stop the crown increase after Round 4. Skip Round 5 and proceed to Round 6 ignoring the count listed at the end of the rounds (count will include 40 stitches when increase is complete).

To adjust for babies, skip Round 4 and Round 5 and replace with the following: standing dc in same stitch as join, dc in next 8 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, *dc in next 5 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch*, repeat *to* around, join with ss. (35 dc). Do not make the large spots for the baby and toddler sizes. Instead make 3 medium spots, 2 small spots and 3 tiny spots.

Finishing:

Arrange spots as desired. I like to start with the large spots spacing them evenly around the cap of the mushroom, but at different heights, one high near the crown, one in the middle and one near the bottom edge. Add the medium and small spots, spacing them between the large spots as desired. I like to place each size pair on roughly opposite sides from each other, but at different heights, one near the crown and one near the bottom edge. I add the tiny spots last placing them between the other spots. Sew them on firmly using tails and weave in all ends. SEE PICTURES BELOW
