TRIANGLE GRANNY SHAWL

Materials:

700-800 yards of light (3) weight yarn

5mm hook

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Abbreviations: 

MR=magic ring

standing dc= standing double crochet (can be replaced by ch 3 if desired)

dc=double crochet

hdc=half double crochet

sc=single crochet

3 tc cluster=cluster of 2 treble crochet -YO twice and insert hook into desired stitch, draw up loop (4 on the hook), YO and pull through 2 loops twice, YO twice and insert hook into same stitch, draw up loop (5 on the hook), YO and pull through 2 loops twice, YO twice and insert hook into same stitch, draw up loop (6 on hook), YO and pull through 2 loops twice, YO and pull through last 3 loops.- 

2 tc cluster= cluster of 2 treble crochet -YO twice and insert hook into desired stitch, draw up loop (4 on the hook), YO and pull though 2 loops twice, YO twice and insert hook into same stitch, draw up loop (5 on the hook), YO and pull through 2 loops twice, YO and pull through last 3 loops.-

3 dc cluster= cluster of 3 double crochet -YO insert hook into desired stitch, draw up loop (3 on the hook),YO and pull through 2, YO insert hook into same stitch, draw up a loop (4 on the hook), YO and pull through 2 loops, insert hook into same stitch, draw up a loop (5 on the hook), YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through last 4 loops.-

2 dc cluster=cluster of 2 double crochet -YO insert hook into desired stitch, draw up loop (3 on the hook),YO and pull through 2, YO insert hook into same stitch, draw up a loop (4 on the hook), YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through last 3 loops.-

ch=chain

FO=fasten off

Gauge Note: Size of finished shawl can be manipulated by changing gauge. It works up well in worsted weight (4) yarn as well. 

 

Pattern:

Row 1: To begin place (standing dc, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) into MR, turn. SEE PICTURE BELOW

Row 2: (standing dc, 2 dc) in 1st stitch, skip next 2 dc, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) into ch 2 space, skip next 2 dc, 3 dc in last dc, turn. SEE PICTURE 2ELOW

Row 3: (standing dc, 2 dc) in 1st stitch, skip next 2 dc, place 3 dc between each group of 3 dc (do NOT stitch into the DC themselves except for the 1st and last stitches of row) until you reach the ch 2 space (the ch 2 space will form the “point” of the shawl). Place (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch 2 space, place 3 dc between each group of 3 dc, 3 dc in the last dc of row, turn. SEE PICTURE BELOW

Row 4-53: repeat Row 3. 

Row 54: ch 1, hdc in each stitch across until ch 2 space, (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in ch 2 space, hdc in each stitch across, turn.

 

Row 55: ch 1, sc in turning stitch, ch 9, skip next 7 stitches, sc in next stitch, skip next 3 stitches, 11 tc in next stitch, skip next 3 stitches, sc in next stitch, *ch 9, skip next 7 stitches, sc in next stitch, skip next 3 stitches, 11 tc in next stitch, skip next 3 stitches, sc in next stitch*, repeat *to* until ch 2 space (last sc of repeat will fall in ch 2 space), (ch 11, sc) in ch 2 space, **skip next 3 stitches, 11 tc in next stitch, skip next 3 stitches, sc in next stitch, ch 9, skip next 7 stitches, sc in next stitch**, repeat **to** until end of row, turn. Row 56: ch 1, sc in turning stitch, ss into ch 9 space, in ch 9 space place (ch 4, 2tc cluster, *3tc cluster, ch 2* repeat *to* 4 times), skip next 5 tc, sc in 6th tc (middle) of fan, ch 2, skip next 5 tc, **repeat (3tc cluster, ch 2) 5 times in next ch 9 space, skip next 5 tc, sc in 6th tc (middle) of fan, ch 2, skip next 5 tc**, repeat **to** 9 times, repeat (3tc cluster, ch 2) 7 times in corner ch 11 space, ***skip next 5 tc, sc in 6th tc (middle) of fan, ch 2, repeat (3tc cluster, ch 2) 5 times in next ch 9 space*** repeat ***to*** 9 times, skip next 5 tc, sc in 6th tc (middle) of fan, ch 2, repeat (3tc cluster, ch 2) 4 times in last ch 9 space, 3tc cluster in same ch 9 space anchoring last tc of cluster into last ch of ch 9 space, turn.  SEE PICTURES BELOW

Row 57: ch 3, 2dc cluster in turning stitch, ch 4, *3dc cluster, ch 4 in next cluster stitch skipping ch 2 space*, repeat *to* 3 times, 3 dc cluster stitch in next cluster stitch, ch2, sc in sc (in middle of fan), ch 2, ** (3 dc cluster, ch 4) in next 4 cluster stitches skipping ch 2 space, 3dc cluster stitch in next cluster stitch, ch 2, sc in next sc (in middle of fan), ch 2**, repeat **to** 9 times, place (3 dc cluster, ch4) in each of the 1st 6 clusters of the corner, place 3dc cluster stitch in last cluster of corner, ***ch 2, sc in next sc (in middle of fan), ch 2, (3 dc cluster, ch 4) in next 4 cluster stitches, 3 dc cluster stitch in last cluster stitch***, repeat ***to*** 10 times (to end of row).
